Awesome Colorado Merriam's Turkey Tail Fan
Beautiful Feathers with Great Colors
Nearly Flawless!

Central Colorado Hunt - Spring 2012

General Information
This a great tail fan is from a Merriam's Wild Turkey from the central region of Colorado. It was harvested this spring (2012). As you can see by the photographs, there are virtually NO FLAWS. This is very rare! Depending on the location, specific habitat and genetics, Merriam's species in one particular region, they will have more green than blue iridescence and can also have a great deal of bronze in the wing covert and saddle feathers. All Turkeys will have iridescent qualities to the upper minor and upper median tail coverts. These are the short feathers located at the base of the retrices. This is part of what makes them attractive to the females. The more color, the more "mating display" they present. I have included a few extra "saddle feathers" in the front, because they had such nice quality, great color and no defects. The margins are without flaws and almost perfect! To find a tail fan of this quality on a spring Turkey in general, is not particularly common, quite rare in fact. Due to their habitats and mating rituals, they are likely to have either mite damage to the margins and barring or even sometimes large sections missing or broken from sparring.
Even if you are not a hunter, you can appreciate this part of nature. If you are a wildlife collector it is certainly a trophy worth having on the mantle or in the Cabin for everyone to see!

This fan is more typical the normal size of the Merriam's. Pure Merriam's species are the smallest of all the 5 species native to the US. This fan measures a huge 26" wide and 17" in height. I have replaced some of the adjacent feathers naturally on the turkey, at the region where the tail is removed. Most people don't take the time to preserve fans to this level. However, as a female, a taxidermist and a hunter myself, visual details are very important. I consider this a work of art! I normally use tail fans in my taxidermy work but when I find a fan that is exceptional, I like to offer it to the public for those who wish to enjoy it on more levels. With regard to replacing feathers, I feel these fans should be naturally appealing to look at. I personally don't want to see an area missing feathers or patches of dried flesh showing. These are all feathers that were originally on that same Turkey, in the same region. I make these fans suitable for display straight out of the box!  No work for the buyer!  I also have special hanger brackets available for this style of fan which makes it more easily displayed. It is a discrete and small shelf-style decorative hanger which will not cover the feathers in the front. Just make your request via email if you win the auction and you would like to purchase one of these hangers.

These fans are shipped very carefully to ensure the feathers, nor the box are flattened. It will look exactly as you see it here, when it arrives at your door. I do not charge any more for the fan than the amount of time it takes me to clean, repair, photograph and prepare for shipping. If it is your intention to use with a decoy, this particular fan will not likely fit into a fan bracket for a decoy without removing several covert tail feathers at the base.

Our Fan Services
We will preserve your personal trophy fan (starting at $30) and ship it back to you. Must be fresh or frozen.  We also repair/refurbish decoy fans as well as construct decoy tail fans from loose feathers. Just email us with your requests. Since I am a female and a hunter myself, I know what is an attractant. I will ensure it has plenty of "bling" to bring those Tom's in on a dead run. As a Taxidermist, I will make sure it looks perfectly natural in it's construction. We have a full line of mounting brackets in different sizes and styles as well. Let us know what you're looking for. We can also make them customized!
We also sell feathers by the lb., the oz., or less. Let us know what you need!
We are...
We change "wild game" into it's next form of beauty.

No guessing by the photos that you see on listings, if that is what you will actually get!
I am a seller that concentrates more on quality than quantity. I always try to highlight the beauty, color and quality in the photographs I take. I also try to note any defects in detail. We do not write mass descriptions. Every single listing is written individually with regard to it's individual details. We know that not everyone needs a perfect feather. We sell slightly damaged feathers at discount, for crafters that will just be cutting them for projects. We also sell broken feathers & feather trimmings with bits of with skin/scrapes for trappers.

We have actually been selling on ebay with a 100% rating since 2003. However, because of on-going and consistent problems with Pay Pal transactions (on their part) we had to close the original ebay account and open a new one in 2009.

We are always open to comments or suggestions about our listings. We will always include more detail than most sellers. Including more detail rather than less has proven beneficial to most people. It also ensures you have all the information you may need and it is clear.
